Welcome to Casa Durkes.
Giorgio and Anna decided to bring Casa Durkes to life thinking about their childhood dream of living close to the water, together with friends. They wanted to share the house with like-minded people and build a place where guests could discover the magic land of Sardinia.
Meet Giorgio, the cofounder of Casa Durkes.
Tell us something about the people behind Casa Durkes. What's your story?
We are both born in Sardinia. I studied Law and Anna Biology, but we had a big passion for food. In 2009 we moved to Berlin, where we opened Anna Durkes, our Gelato shop. Things went great. Berlin has been our home for 10 years and we absolutely loved it there, but life took us back to Sardinia. We needed to be close to the beach, and when we found this property we knew it was the right place for us. We felt amazing energy since day one here.
Do you practice sports?
I love sports. Cala Liberotto is the right place for an active holiday. I swim, I run, I go cycling, but most of all I love Pilates. It's super cool when guests join me in a morning run or in a Pilates mat class on the beach.
Time of the day you enjoy the most in Cala Liberotto?
Sunrise. No doubt at all. It's well worth waking up early and waiting for the sun. It's a miracle every time.
Can you tell us something about the property?
We decided to respect the original design of the property. We wanted to restore rather than renovate. We immediately saw it as a sanctuary where to escape from the world and feel at peace.
We love design and we also love to surround ourselves with things that reflect our history. Each item is carefully selected and represents more than mere decoration. Our memories are here.
What is your approach to hospitality?
We want to offer the best service without the expectation of a reward. We take pride in anticipating and fulfilling people's needs in advance. We believe attention to detail is key to ensure a great experience for our guests. Every little thing matters, from the pieces of art hanging on the walls to the mattresses and bed linen.
You say Casa Durkes is the right place to restore the balance between mind and body. Why?
We are not close to the beach. We are on it. Living so close to the sea contributes to our health and well being. Ancient Romans considered seawater as a form of therapy, and to the Chinese moving water symbolizes wealth flowing to you. The rhythmic crashing of water onto sand and rocks creates a mental state of relaxation and gentle focus. It's no secret sea waves sound helps you sleep. In Cala Liberotto we also have plenty of sunlight and we are firm believers in the virtues of heliotherapy. The sun heals!
What is the best time of the year to stay at Casa Durkes?
It really depends on what you are looking for. If the beach is your religion, visit us from the end of May till mid-October, Casa Durkes is a swimmer paradise. If you are seeking absolute silence, visit us during the rest of the year. You will be able to withdraw your attention from outer things and retire in thought with your own consciousness. The beach in winter is really a meditative place.
